Aeronautics and Astronautics Club

History

The journey of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) started on 19 April 1998 and the Department of Aeronautical Engineering was inaugurated in September, 2008. Being a reputed center of intelligence, the knowledge of aeronautics & astronautics has attracted both of its military and civil students from all departments since then.

To conduct research and to gain technical knowledge in the field of Aeronautics there has always been a need of a common platform where the students of different departments will come to share, gain and innovate new ideas in the field of aeronautics. So an Aeronautics & Astronautics Club was a crying need for our further advancement in this field.

And to realize the need, Mist Aeronautics and Astronautics Club (MAAC) was inaugurated on 5 October 2016 through the hands of some enthusiastic students of AE-05 among them Tonmoy Sarkar,Ahmed Shahriar Shuva, Golam Sarwar were noteworthy . On that first inauguration ceremony MAAC organized ‘Aerothon’ competition and World Space Week for the very first time in MIST.

In the next year inauguration ceremony was organized on 30 April 2017. The President was Nazmul Hasan. In 2017 A team named "Dreamer's fin" from MIST Aeronautics & Astronautics Club participated in AIAA Undergraduate Aircraft Design Competition-2017 under the supervision of Department of Aeronautical Engineering, MIST. This was the first time ever any team participating at this prestigious competition from Bangladesh. The team has designed a cost efficient business jet family named 'Balaka' consisting of two aircraft 'X-06' & 'X-08'.

In 2018 the President of the club, Md. Raqibul Hasan Prince organized Aerothon in 5 categories. Then in 2019 another team also participated on “Design Build Fly”(DBF) competition which was held on Tucson, Arizonan

In 2020 the President of the club, Sabbir Hossain with his great leadership and talent organized a number of events. Noteworthy amongst them was the campus hour ‘Paper Plane Challenge’ which was the most exciting event for the day. And later during world pandemic MAAC organized many successful webinars.

Description

MIST Aeronautics and Astronautics Club (MAAC), is a prescient Club of MIST founded in 2016 directed under the supervision of the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, MIST.  MAAC is dedicated to lead students interested in the field of Aeronautics & Astronautics providing both technical & theoretical knowledge. We encourage students to understand the beauty of Aeronautical Science and Astronomy. No doubt, we are committed to support students in learning the knowledge of Aeronautical Science & Astronomy and applying these knowledge by   participating on prestigious competitions around the world like Design Build & Fly (USA), Boeing Aeromodling Competition (India), SAE Aerodesign (USA & Brazil). MAAC also supports students in research areas linked to Astronomy and Aeronautical Science.

In a nutshell, MAAC provides an excellent opportunity for engineering students in MIST to gain hands-on-experience in the field of Aeronautics & Astronautics.

Club Purpose

To help Students apply their academic knowledge in practical fields through projects and conducting research works

•    To provide a platform to nourish innovative technical ideas
•    To arrange national and international competitions and conduct workshops
•    To work together with other foreign and national universities
•    To publish at least one journal on Aeronautics and Astronautics every academic year
•    To encourage students to promote technical activities through the application of Aeronautics and Astronautics in our country

Achievements

A team named "Dreamer's fin" from MIST Aeronautics & Astronautics Club has recently participated in AIAA Undergraduate Aircraft Design Competition-2018 under the supervision of Department of Aeronautical Engineering, MIST.This is the first ever any team participating at this prestigious competition from Bangladesh. The team has designed a cost efficient business jet family named 'Balaka' consisting of two aircraft 'X-06' & 'X-08 .Besides, MAAC arranged a good number of events in MIST which were very successful.
Events
Event Name: Quad-Copter & Paper Plane Challenge (Campus Hour)
Event Time: Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 12 PM – 2:45 PM
MAAC-MIST Aeronautics & Astronautics Club arranged an event on Campus Hour on 26 February, 2020 in Mist premises. We went to organize a paper plane challenge competition and also there was a Quadcopter Demonstration program. At the same time, there was also a poster presentation on Aeronautics & Astronautics. In paper plane challenge competition, there were three segments : 1. Furthest Distance paper plane challenge competition (Winner was selected on the basis of the measuring highest horizontal distances) 2. Longest Flight Time paper plane challenge competition (Winner was selected on basis of the Time measuring from take-off to landing by stopwatch) 3. Most Accurate paper plane challenge competition (Plane hitting at a nearest distance from the bull’s eye was the winner) Almost all students of MIST participated in these events spontaneously. Our Respected Commandant Sir as well as DSW sir also visited these events.

Event Name: ChitChat with MAAC Pioneers
Event Time: Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 11 PM

Chit-chat with MAAC was organized by maac in 5 June 2020 through a video conference with the pioneers, by holding their hands MAAC has started it's grandeur journey, who have sown the foundation of MAAC.In that conference they shared their precious opinion, ideas and gave us important suggestions. We hope that by following their footsteps we can make MAAC reach the peak of success .
Event Name: Satellites & UAVs Simplified: A Session With Anwar Aziz
Event Time: Monday, April 27, 2020 at 8 PM – 9:30 PM

We wanted to spend our quarantine times wondering and knowing a little bit more about Satellites & UAVs. With this view, MAAC- MIST Aeronautics & Astronautics Club intended to arrange an online session called “Satellites & UAVs Simplified: An interactive Session with Anwar Aziz”. In this session, we knew more about how satellites are made, how UAVs function, and how all these works are practically integrated. The sky has always been a wonder to human beings since the beginning of civilization. Man has conquered the sky & has always reached for more information about the space. That’s why satellites have been placed intentionally in space. Moreover, there are unmanned aerial vehicles which fly in the sky on their own! We all at times have wondered how these air vehicles & satellites are really made of & how they actually function. That’s why, MAAC- MIST Aeronautics & Astronautics Club invited Mr. Anwar Aziz as speaker, an Alumni from Aeronautical Engineering Dept, MIST, who is currently serving as the Senior Manager at Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited. Thus, this session let us know about our interests regarding satellites and UAVs: Intro to Space and Orbits Categories of Satellite and Satellite Subsystems Launch Sequences and Events Basic of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 Bangabandhu Satellite-1 Capabilities and Services More importantly, MAAC- MIST Aeronautics & Astronautics Club provided certificates as appreciation for students' spontaneous participation from many renowned Universities.
